THE HEALTHIER US SCHOOL CHALLENGE
RECOGNIZES EXCELLENCE IN SCHOOLS THAT ARE CREATING HEALTHIER SCHOOL ENVIRONMENTS THROUGH THEIR PROMOTION OF GOOD Nutrition AND PHYSICAL ACTIVITY.
WE OFFER HEALTHIER FOOD CHOICES SUCH AS FOODS LOWER IN FAT, MORE WHOLE GRAINS, A GREATER VARIETY OF FRUITS AND VEGETABLES, WHILE ALSO IMPROVING THE QUALITY OF FOODS. WE BELIEVE THAT CHILDREN WHO LEARN TO MAKE HEALTHY FOOD CHOICES AND BE PHYSICALLY ACTIVE AT SCHOOL WILL CONTINUE THESE HABITS WELL INTO ADULTHOOD.
WE INVITE YOU TO HAVE LUNCH WITH YOUR CHILD OFTEN AND TO ENCOURAGE THEM TO TRY NEW FOODS. INVOLVING YOUR CHILD IN SELECTING HEALTHY CHOICES AT THE GROCERY STORE AND PREPARING HEALTHY CHOICES AT HOME WILL REINFORCE THE MESSAGES WE ARE TEACHING AT SCHOOL!
